Baby and Toddler - RSV Infections

Almost all parents have heard of the RSV virus. RSV stands for respiratory syncytial virus. It has got a lot of attention because of their potential impact on children. Deaths have been reported in infants who have contracted this disease. That is enough to frighten any parent. Yet many parents do not know that fifty percent of babies get RSV before they are one years old and nearly all children by the time it will have received two. You may remember her baby with a really bad cold. That was probably the RSV virus and not even know it. It can cause pneumonia in infants.

During the first RSV infection of the child, twenty-five percent to forty percent develop pneumonia or bronchitis. Only less than two percent have to be hospitalized. Those who need to be hospitalized, the babies younger than six months old. The babies who are at greatest risk those who were born prematurely or those with health problems.

The RSVVirus causes an infection of the respiratory tract or the lungs and airways. You can read more than once infected, more than once. After infection for the first time the body builds a certain immunity against and subsequent infections are usually mild.

The RSV disease typically begins with fever, cough and a runny nose. Some young children may develop shortness of breath the first day until the third day of illness. Some can be fast breathing and may mark the breathingwork harder than usual. This is bronchitis. This happens because the infection causes the linings of the airways to swell. RSV can trigger asthma in children. Many children who have one RSV infection, ear infections, and in some cases, pneumonia, which developed an infection of the lungs. This is when the smallest of the airways have decreased in the lungs. They become short of breath and have a cough. They are not like children with asthmatic bronchitis. The recovery time for an RSVDisease is eight to fifteen days.

RSV is very contagious and can be up to fifty percent of the children during an RSV epidemic. The annual epidemic usually occurs in late autumn to winter and spring. It is almost never heard in the summer. RSV is the drop of a coughing or sneezing, or even distribute free mucus from a runny nose too. The actual distribution occurs when a close contact with a person infected with the virus or where the droplets land on the surfaceand will be picked up when another touches the surface. The virus can survive for several hours on a surface. Develop symptoms of the virus to begin four to seven days after they contract the virus. The virus can enter through the nose and eyes as well. So it is wise to not have to face when they touch into contact with someone who is infected, too. Hand washing is a must. Practice good hand washing is to prevent that other viral infections, and helpful.

Most of the time of RSV infectionbe mild and not treated as such, other than loving care. Book your child comfortable and treat symptoms such as fever. Give plenty of fluids. If your child has trouble breathing, then it was time to visit the doctor, even if a baby coughing so much and they can not eat, then they can take note to the hospital.
